Buc-ee’s has become another Texas tradition among other traditions that fall into that infamous category of “all things are bigger in Texas”. For those of you who aren’t fortunate enough to live in the great state of Texas, Buc-ee’s is a chain of convenience stores on steroids, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Arch “Beaver” Aplin III and Don Wasek, business partners, opened their first store in 1982. It was a such a huge success, they began expanding into a company that now holds the title for having the largest convenience store in the world as well as the cleanest restrooms.
Currently, there are 25 locations spanning from Fort Worth to just south of San Antonio. Buc-ee’s offers a snackers paradise with aisle after aisle of chips, nuts and various other munchies. They also have private label snacks to satisfy the choosiest of appetites. You can choose from one of the many jerkies by the pound from the jerky counter or step over to the wall for any one of the flavors of prepackaged meats. If you want something a little sweeter you can grab some of their signature pralines or corn puffed Beaver Nuggets. You need to make sure to pass by their jarred vegetables, preserves and salsa to go along with your tortilla chips.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the ‘gift’ section of the store as well. Not only can you get just about anything with Buc-ee the Beaver emblazoned on it, but their gift area just as pumped as the food area. Need a baby gift, got it. How about a birthday present, got it. Maybe a house warming present, got that too. They even have a deer feeder for your hunting blind…doesn’t everyone have need one of those?
If you find yourself traveling through or to the great state of Texas, make sure to check out one of these mega giants.
